James William “Jimmy” Buffett was born in Pascagoula (Mississippi) in 1946 and is a musician, songwriter, author, actor, and businessman. As a child, he played the trombone in his school’s band and went on to play guitar during his freshman year at university. His began his musical career as a country artist in Nashville during the late 1960s. He recorded his first album (Down to Earth) in 1970 and could be frequently found busking for tourists. In 1971 he went to Key West on a busking expedition, decided to move there, and began to establish the easy-going beach-bum persona that he's now famous for. Soon after his move, he started to blend country, folk, rock, and pop music with coastal as well as tropical lyrical themes into a genre that’s sometimes called gulf and western. He started to tour frequently during the 1980s with a backing band called The Coral Reefer Band. Its current line up consists of Michael Utley (keyboards, Robert Greenidge (steel drums), Peter Mayer (guitar, vocals), Jim Mayer (bass), Roger Guth (drums), Mac McAnally (guitars, vocals), Doyle Grisham (pedal steel guitar), John Lovell (trumpet), Tina Gullickson (guitar, vocals), Nadirah Shakoor (vocals), and Eric Darken (percussion).
