Sensational rock, pop, and new wave artists Rod Stewart and Cyndi Lauper are bringing their signature sounds to the Xfinity Center!
Cynthia Ann Stephanie Lauper was born in Queens in 1953 and is a singer, songwriter, actress, and LGBT activist. She grew up listening to The Beatles, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Billie Holiday and at the age 12, began writing songs and playing acoustic guitar. In 1978 she formed a band called Blue Angel and they released their self-titled debut album 2 years later. The group disbanded due to financial troubles but Cyndi’s star potential hadn’t gone unnoticed by the industry (particularly due to her four-octave singing range). She released her debut album (She’s So Unusual) in 1983 and it was a worldwide hit, reaching #4 on the US Billboard 200 chart. It was in the chart's top 40 for 65 weeks, sold over 6 million copies in the US, and 16 million internationally. The album spawned 4 huge hits; Time After Time, She Bop, All Through the Night, and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (the latter being nominated for 2 Grammy Awards and winning an MTV Video Music Award). She's also won a Tony Award (for Best Original Score), an Emmy Award, and an MTV Video Music Award.
